Snapshots of a negative newspaper

Snippets from The Gray News over the years.

The Gray News is the reflection of a Town.
Editor Ray Clark, 2001-03-23

Fix yourself a cup of what you like best and let your memory take you back to the days before The Monument paper came into being.
Gray Town Councilor Julie DeRoche 2006-02-24

While my intentions were noble-to bring problems to the attention of others-the method I used was very hurtful. I took away some of the innocence in our town, and stripped away that feeling of community.
Gray News minutes taker Nathan Tsukroff, 2005-08-05

The results should have served as a wakeup call for the sadistic Mr. Upham, but his monumental ego apparently prevents self-reflection, and his personal jihads continue.
Paul Proudian, 2006-06-30. Mr. Proudian also runs a Gray News hate blog

Has there been in the Town of Gray a more naked display of collusion in the face of inevitable defeat than Upham, Crane and Foster scuttling like crawfish away from a vote on abolishing the CEDC Tuesday night?
Editor Ray Clark, IMHO 2006-01-20

Next Tuesday will be slash-and-burn night, if at least some members of the Gray Town Council have their way.
Editor Ray Clark, 1-13-06, in a news article

I don't often get mad, but I'm mad. It is the worst kind of political claptrap, and the people who wrote it are no friends of the Town, its taxpayers or the patrons of the Library.
Editor Ray Clark, IMHO, 2006-04-28

Gray Matters: An Idiot's Guide to Pennell Institute What the rest of you (taxpayers) need to know.
Paul Proudian 7-29-05.

I can only conclude that these questions are too hard for the Council, and they skip them as a high school junior might skip a tough question on the SAT test.
Editor Ray Clark IMHO, 2006-04-07

This Council is always squawking about running the Town like a business…
Editor Ray Clark, 2006-01-20

Who needs Osama Bin Laden, we have each other?
Recall initiator Don Crandall, 4-7-06

It is too early to say what will happen to Mr. Upham in the forthcoming special election. But the betting is now that he'll be hung out to dry.
Editor Ray Clark, IMHO 2006-03-24

In my personal opinion, Ray, I think your paper has gone overboard in negative writing concerning people in Gray, including councilor Andy Upham.
Gray News Columnist Dumpster Bill, 2-17-06, in his published resignation letter

"The Gray News is the reflection of a Town"
Editor Ray Clark, 2001-03-23

It certainly is, Ray. It certainly is.

  • Right on, BiasB! I'm glad you included Crandall and Proudian, Gray Newsers both, who are also directly responsible for the negativity and hate mongering. Yet... "strangely," in an odd coincidence, apparently they never think thier actions will have consequences.

    Think...Batgirl. Tinman. BWG. Hel-lo! I see a consequence a-comin'!

Keep it up, BiasBuster. At first I wondered how you could come up with something different every day but now I see there are endless possibilities with The Gray Negative News.

  • BUSTED...Julie DeRoche was not the town councilor in February 2006

You are such a twisted sister!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:59 AM

  • Of course she wasn't. I never said she was. Do you think her view about how life was great before The Monument came into being has changed in 4 months? Does she waffle that quickly? Uh-oh.

Wasn't Twisted Sister a heavy metal rock band? Though how I am a twisted sister because Julie DeRoche is unhappy with The Monument's existence and says so in print is a connection that escapes me...

  • In February DeRoche said life was good before The Monument. So obviously she is a Gray News person. In March she began thinking about running for office. In April and May she helped with the recall. So obviously she is a Gray News person AND anti-councilors and pro-divide-the-town-let's jump-on-the-hate-bandwagon. In June she got on the council. I think I know where this is going.

And waffler, yes. Don't forget, she applied for the open Council seat when Matt resigned. Then when John Welch put in his papers she quit. Maybe she doesn't like the pressure. Or is used to getting things easy. Who knows. But, the facts are, she waffles.

  • It's apparent that some people, like Mr or Mrs Anonymous above there, are not here to learn, talk, chat, disagree respectfully, or contribute. It seems to be beyond some people to make a comment without name-calling.

  • I could put "now-councilor Julie DeRoche" . It might make things clearer for some people. I thought people would understand she is now a councilor but said it in February.

I know, though, some people ignore the post and leap on things like "You forgot the period, you asshole!" Then they spend lots of time constructing a case that the missing punctuation therefore negates the entire entry. Or the whole blog. Or the Universe. God luv 'em.

  • It's so nice that Paul Proudian can explain to the rest of us idiots all about Pennell. Which no one cares about anyhow. I missed that column when it came out. I try not to read The Gray News much anymore. This is why.

Now that Paul has lots of time on his hands maybe we can expect more of these Pearls from on High. I can hardly wait.

  • Stacked up like this you can see how negative the Gray News has become. And Ray seems pretty angry. How can he be objective about the news he covers when he's this emotional about it? No wonder he's biased.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:10 AM

  • Did Paul Proudian get paid for his volunteer work on the cable committee?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:35 AM

  • To answer that, the authoritative person is Council Chair Gary Foster. 657 4754.

By Blogger Gray Maine, at 7:41 AM

  • Anonymous 8:35AM It is my understanding that Paul Proudian did NOT get paid for his volunteer work on the Cable Committee. So you see, he has not been penalized for anything but his own actions of stupidity.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:40 AM

  • Oops! I think my understanding was in error about the money part! Seems like there are lots of dollars distributed among the Cable Committee Members..it's no wonder they were so defensive! I guess we need to redefine Volunteer??
I was under the impression a Volunteer was 'one who offers himself for service'!! Think this bears 'looking into'!!!
