Back to the beginning
Ray Clark is leaving the Gray News. Good. The Gray News can be restored to its once glittering and currently Clark-tarnished original intent. And here is the original intent, verbatim from original editor Cliff Foster in Gray News volume 1 number 1, January 1969.
“It has been demonstrated in the past, and more recently at the Gray Community Betterment meeting, that some type of informative newsletter, publication, or whatever, is needed to keep people in the Town of Gray more fully informed as to events and meetings which affect the community.”
“Such a publication could (1) serve as a medium of relaying facts and information, and (2) provide means of publishing sentiments and ideas of anyone who so desired, through a “Letters to the Editor” section. A calendar of events could also be inserted by local organizations, in addition to a school calendar.…At any rate it is believed to be a worthwhile venture.”
The Gray News relaying facts and information. What a worthwhile venture. Won’t that be nice?

This is good news. I understand that Clark will still write a column but that's OK. If he misbehaves he and the paper is subject to serious criticism and liability. He better be careful.

As long as he is on the EDITORIAL page where EVERY "news" story he's ever written belongs. He is in Gray's top 3 political hacks.

I'm not too worried about his practically nonexistent influence, for 3 reasons.
1. Editor Emeritus positions are gimme, lame duck columns. Nobody pays attention to them.
2. He won't have anything to say. If Corsetti hires real reporters and the paper prints real news, Ray won't know how to respond. He does not know how to deal with the truth.
3. If he writes about his grandkids and the why he likes Spring and his favorite color kind of columns, they will be OK. He is good at those.

My thoughts also from anonymous at 7:21pm. Clark is neutered.

Clark is leaving the gray no-longer-independent news - VERY GOOD.
Clark will be free to run for public office - VERY BAD.
Say goodnight Ray...

Interesting blog. I thought that all people were bias. This is my first visit to this blog.

Clark may be free to run for public office; however, after running our Town Paper into the ground, Who in their right mind would even entertain the idea? We recently got rid of the deception in Town Government...People are too smart and Ray is too stupid.

Their time is over. Maybe they know that now. They didn’t know in June 2005, when Audrey Burns ran for council and ended up doing so poorly at the polls. Denise Duda beat her handily. But their time is over and I think Ray is more tired, beat up, and disillusioned than he lets on. I don’t think he’ll run for anything.

I Agree!

Is Ray going to write a good bye column every week? Leave already!

Well, last week he wrote that he was MAYBE going to quit. This week he decided he WAS going to quit. For sure. It's real now. He's such a tease!
He padded his tenure a bit, it's not 10 years. It's eight and a half. To be accurate.
He sure spent a lot of ink thanking people. His board of directors that hired him, ok, that one was a political gimme. His volunteers and staff, sure. He then thanked...the government, in the form of the managers he’d worked with. A newspaper thanking the government?? That’s a new one. "Thank goodness for the Town Managers handing me all the government-biased news so I didn't have to get off my duff and scrape it up myself. You know, "Independently."
Anyway, did you notice who he failed to thank? His READERS. The citizens who make democracy possible. Managers don’t make democracy happen. Readers do.
So, I agree, LEAVE ALREADY!

I'm soooo glad Ray Clark will soon be a 'thing of the past'!! HE has NO journalist ability at all... as is evident in any of the editorials he scribbles. I, also, agree..LEAVE ALREADY!!!
